2004-05-03 7:03 a.m. The Parting of the Ways Traditional Values vs. Moral Relativism I was thinking about this last night, and then the image of Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof popped into my head. In the opening scenes of the show he and the other villagers of Annatevka sing about Tradition. Traditions, for the villagers, are what keep life going, and help people to know, who they are and what God expects of them. Of course we all know that Tevye’s daughters break with Tradition. Tzeitle goes and marries Model the tailor with out her father’s permission. Hodle, leaves and follows Perchek, and finally Chavala breaks will all and marries Fyetka, the Russian. To this Tevye responds, I can only bend so far. There are some traditions we cannot break with. I feel like Tevye recently. Society asks me to accept things that I cannot. Things that go against the foundations of what I, and many others believe in. That is what I am talking about, when I refer to 50 yeas ago. I don’t believe that the world was Donna Reed, Ozzie & Harriet or Leave it to Beaver. There were problems, and not good ones. I’m not proud that our nation has the ugly blight of discrimination on it, when we say “all men (and women) are created equal.” What I refer to, is that fact that in years past, before the plague of moral relativism and the devastation of the Counter Culture, life was different, and I believe better. Self-reliance was prized; respect for elders, country was something to be proud of. The family unit was respected and not under constant attack. People exercised a little more caution, instead of just doing what ever feels good and the government was not in every aspect of our lives. People hate the Christian Right, but you know, they are no worse than the Liberal Left in my opinion. The Liberal Left is just as bent at shoving their agenda down the throats of the American Public as ever. People like me, Conservatives, feel just as threatened by the encroachment of the Liberal Left as the Liberal Left feel threatened by the values and principles espoused by the Christian Right. This parting of the ways so to speak is what will drive our great country into the ground. We’ll kill ourselves before Al-Quedia will ever kill us all. With that said, this is the last entry, here on this site. I’m moving to a new site, which will be up and running in about a week or so. If you want to continue reading please sign up on the notify list. If you are linking me from LDS Blogs I will be changing my info there to reflect my new location as well. Please be patient.
